5 trade block options Steelers could target heading to training camp
With training camp about to start this week for the Steelers, they could still be in the market to add some players.
Everyone wants them to make a splash, especially after Brandon Aiyuk demanded a trade from the San Francisco 49ers recently. He will be a name to monitor, but there will be other names on the trade block across the NFL. Either the team is ready to move on, or the player could search for another opportunity elsewhere.
Omar Khan is not afraid to be aggressive, and adding some pieces to upgrade their roster before the regular season might be a realistic outcome.
JuJu Smith-Schuster
It could make sense for all parties involved for JuJu Smith-Schuster to return to the Steelers.
He hasn't been good since joining the Patriots, and his contract doesn't do him any favors. If New England were willing to eat some of his contract this season and next, then there could be a trade to be made here. Smith-Schuster can play inside and outside, which the Steelers need. He could be a legitimate starting option they could add on the cheap.
Jonathan Allen
Could the Steelers go big game hunting on the trade front at training camp?
Adding Jonathan Allen would surely get attention from around the league. Washington has a new front office, and they might be willing to move on from their longtime veteran. Acquiring Allen would cost a pretty penny or two. Add that he also accounts for over 20 million against the cap for the next two years, and this trade could be tricky.
Allen Lazard
Another receiver makes the list here as the New York Jets might want to get Allen Lazard out of the Big Apple. They signed him to a massive contract last offseason, and things did not go well last year. His cap hit remains relatively high for what he produces through the 2026 season. If the Jets were willing to retain money on the contract, then the Steelers should be all ears.
Lazard is a big target who scores a lot of touchdowns but cannot produce a ton of yardage. He can play both inside and outside at the receiver position. He could be an interesting choice if certain stipulations were met with the Steelers in a trade to lower his cap hit throughout the remainder of his contract.
Marshon Lattimore
We will see how things shake out with Donte Jackson as the other starting outside cornerback before seriously considering a trade for Marshon Lattimore.
He would be a terrific get, and the Saints should be open for business on the trade market as they routinely have cap issues. Lattimore remains one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, which brings a near 30-million-dollar cap hit over the next two years. Lattimore would be a terrific fallback option if Jackson can't be the outside guy for one reason or another at training camp.
Malik Willis
A couple of things would need to happen for Malik Willis to become a legit trade option for the Steelers.
One, he would need to fail to entice the Tennessee Titan's new regime to keep him around.
And two, Kyle Allen and John Rhy Plumlee would need to show they are not as good as Willis during training camp.
We know the Steelers spent a ton of time with Willis during the pre-draft process back in 2022. A lot has changed since some projected him to be the top quarterback in that class. He has a ton of arm talent and potential, but things are starting to sink for him with the Titans. Perhaps Tomlin could be interested in adding him via trade if certain things happen at training camp.
