It seems less likely now, but Bud Dupree could return to Pittsburgh

A reunion with Bud Dupree and the Steelers was close to happening last year. He was in town for a workout, and it seemed like a deal would be struck. That never materialized and Dupree would jet out of Pittsburgh with no contract. He would sign a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons, and that proved to be the right move for both sides.

The Steelers got quality play by their backup edge rushers Markus Golden and Nick Herbig. Dupree had a good season with the Falcons, which allowed him to slide back into a starting role. He was able to provide some quality numbers in his full season as a starter. It seems like his days of high production might be gone, which could dry up his free agency market.

He will not command the monster contract that got him out of Pittsburgh in the first place. Dupree might be best returning to Atlanta, but with a new coaching regime there, that might not be an option for him anymore. The Steelers should place a call with the pending free agent when the negotiation period begins. There is a potential need to fill.

Golden is a pending free agent himself, but Herbig is a rising star on defense. If the Steelers can't re-sign Golden, then turning toward Dupree might be the best alternative. He is coming off a better year, so he might come at a steeper price tag. It shouldn't break the bank for the black and gold, but this could be a nice depth option at outside linebacker.
