A Steelers vs Cowboys Christmas matchup would confirm Pittsburgh is still NFL royalty
By Tommy Jaggi
Numerous games have been leaked ahead of the 2024 NFL schedule release. On May 15th at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, NFL Network will reveal the full 2024 schedule for all 32 teams, while social media teams will drop schedule release videos. When it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers, nothing is concrete just yet.
There have been rumors that the Steelers could be on the road in Atlanta to open the 2024 season. This game would offer plenty of intrigue, as we would get a Russell Wilson vs. Kirk Cousins matchup, and Pittsburgh would be facing Arthur Smith's old team.
But this is nothing compared to the excitement that we could witness on Christmas Day.
The NFL has confirmed that there will be a double-header on Christmas. Though they haven't released which teams will be playing on December 25th, one potential game that has been talked about is the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Dallas Cowboys.
NFL could put Steelers back on the map with Christmas game against the Cowboys
Like it or not, the Dallas Cowboys always draw an enormous audience. Their huge fanbase will tune in to see them while millions of others will watch to root against them. The Cowboys and Steelers have a history, and these two teams have the best record in the NFL since in the merger.
Though they only play each other once every four years (or if their records like up in the AFC and NFC standings), this game would be a highly anticipated contest with two of the biggest and most dedicated fanbases in football.
Putting this game on Christmas Day could draw the biggest crowd of the year for the National Football League. In the past, December 25th has been a day for the NBA to shine, but professional basketball would be forced to take a backseat to this.
The Steelers vs. Cowboys would feature riveting matchups like WR CeeDee Lamb vs. CB Joey Porter Jr. and WR George Pickens against CB Trevon Diggs. We would also witness two of the best pass rushers squaring off to see who emerges with the bigger performance as T.J. Watt and Micah Parsons are perennial All-Pro players.
If a Steelers vs. Cowboys Christmas Day matchup is to occur, the game will be played in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, December 25th -- which means there's a possibility this contest will be played in the snow. What more could a football fan ask for?
These two historic franchises don't play each other often, and the NFL should make this one of their premier matchups of the 2024 season. Stay tuned to see if the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys will face each other on Christmas this year.
