Disgruntled Raiders star is back in the trade spotlight for the Steelers
Time will tell which teams are in the hunt by the time the trade deadline rolls around on November 5. Those who are out of the running should be exhausting all of their resources to try and acquire draft capital to better their teams' futures. The writing seems on the wall for a handful of teams during the early portion of the schedule. One of those teams who will probably be selling is the Las Vegas Raiders.
They don't have a solid quarterback situation right now. It might be the worst situation in the NFL. Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell are the two options to start for Las Vegas, and neither is going to get them near the playoffs. It is a frustrating time to be a Raiders fan, but that means they could be sellers before the trade deadline passes.
Even though the Raiders have plenty of problems across their roster, they have some good players under their employment. They have a couple of receivers who could interest the Steelers. They also have some defense options that could spike interest around the league. Las Vegas should be busy making trades over the next several weeks looking to add picks to their arsenal.
Davante Adams trade to the Steelers might not be an outlandish idea
Things are not pretty in Vegas right now after their Head Coach Anthony Pierce mentioned some of his players were "making business decisions" during their latest loss. No one is certain who he was referencing, but a team struggling with effort won't get many wins in the NFL. That is why they could look to jump-start their wealth back into relevancy by departing with a big asset like Davante Adams.
He is an experienced veteran at this point in his career, but he is still producing big numbers every season. Despite the poor level of quarterback, he has played with since joining the Raiders, Adams has been able to stay near the top of the receiver rankings in the NFL. He would be a tremendous addition not only to help mentor George Pickens but also to take the Steeler's offense to new heights.
Fan Duel Sports book put out a mock trade on X last week that would have Adams dealt to the Steelers for a second and fifth-round pick over the next two drafts. That is similar to what many discussed when Pittsburgh was in trade talks with the 49ers for Brandon Aiyuk. If the Raiders are willing to move Adams for that price, then this would be a magnificent trade for the black and gold.
They get a star receiver to infuse into their offense that needs to support their quarterbacks in every way possible. Getting someone like Adams would elevate their playoff hopes into contending beliefs in an instant. Pittsburgh would have to figure out how the cap situation would work by trading for Adams, but it is not an impossible challenge to overcome.
Las Vegas might scoff at this idea, but it would take a specific situation for a team to add someone like Adams at this point in the year because of his cap number. The Steelers would have to figure out different ways to open enough cap space, but they have a better chance than another team currently linked to Adams in trade talks. If the Raiders keep slipping, then Adams being traded makes a ton of sense.
