Trade Scenarios Countdown: 5 opportunities for the Steelers to boost their team
Bringing in a veteran linebacker would provide a boost on defense
Inside linebacker has not been a huge issue for the Steelers yet, in fact, they have been better than what they had on their roster this time last season. That being said, this club could do a lot better than the players they currently have at their disposal. There could be options out there on the trade market that could be upgrades over the likes of Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts, and Kwon Alexander.
One name that came to mind was Jordan Hicks of the Minnesota Vikings. There might not be a team that has disappointed more than the Vikings this season. Their star receiver seems out for the remainder of the season, and everything looks grim in Minnesota. Even their quarterback, Kirk Cousins could be traded before the deadline.
Hicks is someone that has been tied to Pittsburgh in the past by the media as a fit with the club. He never landed with the Steelers in the past, but this time would make sense. He would be acquired for cheap since he is on an expiring deal. He is a veteran with a lot of starting experience and is having a solid season thus far.
Throwing a late round pick at the Vikings to get the quality linebacker would be a buy low situation that could help this linebacker group a lot. Hicks brings a lot of experience and leadership with him that might help this group. Minnesota will be in selling mode going up to the deadline and someone like Hicks makes a lot of sense.
