Former NFL players beg Mike Tomlin to end Steelers' quarterback competition
By Tommy Jaggi
The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a Week 3 win against the LA Chargers, and fans are taking to social media to praise quarterback Justin Fields. In his third game with his new team, Fields put together his best performance yet in Pittsburgh.
Fields had a shaky start in Week 3 as LA's defense was firing on all cylinders and defenders were constantly in his face. However, the talented quarterback proved that he is more than capable of leading the Steelers to success.
in the second half of his Week 3 showing against the Chargers, Fields showed poise from the pocket and delivered a few strikes across the middle of the field. None was bigger than his impressive 55-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Calvin Austin III.
Thanks to the spectacular play of Fields against a strong defense, the Steelers cruised to victory late in the game. Fields assumed victory formation one yard away from scoring another touchdown to close out the final seconds of the game.
Fields finished the Week 3 contest with 245 passing yards and 7.7 yards per attempt while punching in two touchdowns (one rushing and one passing). The Steelers' quarterback earned a respectable 96.0 passer rating -- even with an interception off a tipped pass.
Somehow, the box score numbers hardly do Justin Fields justice for just how impressive his Week 3 performance really was. His outstanding game against the Chargers immediately had former NFL players going to bat for Fields.
Former players Ryan Clark, Dan Orlovsky, and Chase Daniel believe in the talent of Justin Fields and believe he should be the starting quarterback moving forward. This is the theme with Steelers fans across the globe following Week 3.
Steelers have a no-brainer decision at QB1
Whatever the Steelers thought Russell Wilson could be no longer matters. Justin Fields is that guy.
While Pittsburgh hasn't put up gaudy numbers offensively in any of their first three games, all the signs point to an offense that has plenty of potential.
Fields has simply executed Mike Tomlin's game plan to a tee. He has just one turnover in three games, he's making good decisions with the football, and finding ways to pull through in the clutch.
What's impressive about his Week 3 performance is that Fields put up his best showing without the use of his legs. The Steelers' QB made nearly all of his best plays from the pocket and chipped in just 6 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Not only should there be no quarterback controversy in Pittsburgh, but the Steelers may even have the makings of a franchise quarterback on their hands. At 25 years old and with every tool you could ask for at the position, Fields hasn't yet reached the ceiling of what he will become in the NFL.
There's a reason former NFL players believe in Justin Fields, and Steelers fans should be excited about the future of this franchise.
