Early in the offseason, Steelers running back Jaylen Warren teased the idea of Justin Fields returning kicks for Pittsburgh in 2024. Cam Heyward quickly shushed him on his Not Just Football Podcast, but these comments quickly went viral and resulted in an uproar among the fanbase.

Fields won't be returning kicks for the Steelers this season, at least not according to the team. But that didn't stop Madden from toying with fans in their latest video hyping up their new game, Madden NFL 25.

Five seconds into the video, Justin Fields is seen returning a kick that he quickly hands off to future Hall of Fame kick returner, Cordarrelle Patterson. Madden clearly wanted to showcase the NFL's new kickoff rules and the polarizing Fields was used as a puppet.

Steelers could find an unusual role for Justin Fields in 2024

The producers at Madden know that Justin Fields returning kicks is something we might not see at all in 2024, but Fields is a popular figure around the league and his presence sells. While the Steelers want him to play quarterback, there might be another role or two in his future.

Early reports from several Steelers beat writers suggest that Justin Fields struggled in the team's offseason programs -- showing slow processing and accuracy issues at OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

If these persist and Russell Wilson runs away with the starting QB job, Mike Tomlin and Arthur Smith could look to get creative. Some have suggested that Fields could see a package or two per game that utilizes his athletic ability. Because of this, many have likened him to Saints quarterback and tight end, Taysom Hill.

Hill has thrown as many as 168 passes in a season with the Saints while chipping in 398 rushing attempts since 2018. The dynamic athlete is viewed as a Swiss Army knife who can do a little bit of everything but doesn't have a true position.

That seems to be how the team at EA Sports views Fields after showcasing him as a kick returner in their hype video for their upcoming game.

Justin Fields has been very clear that he's a quarterback and that is where he will be playing. However, if the team views him as a distant second option at the position behind Wilson, getting creative with the athletic QB isn't out of the question.

Madden NFL 25 will be released in the U.S. on August 16 and is available for pre-order now.
