New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields is one of the most difficult quarterback evaluations in the NFL. While he can throw a golf ball through a battleship thanks to his rocket arm and is one of the best athletes we've seen at the position, he lacks refinement in the finer aspects of quarterback play.

The Chicago Bears purchased enough tickets to the Fields roller coaster, trading him to move on with Caleb Williams. The Steelers acquired him to push Russell Wilson for the starting quarterback job, with Fields' first audition taking place in the preseason opener against the Houston Texans.

After three drives, Fields had not led the Steelers to any points. On the one hand, he did complete five of his six passes for 67 yards (with his one incompletion being a true 50/50 call) and showed off that great mobility. However, many of the same issues from his Bears days popped up.

Fields muffed two snaps and was sacked twice in three drives. One of his sacks took Pittsburgh out of field goal range on what would be his final action of the day. Fields, for better or worse, looked like the same player he was with the Bears.

Russell Wilson is clearly the starter and would be no matter how well Fields played in the preseason, but this wild start to affairs might take some of the wind out of the former Ohio State prodigy's sails. The same old issues continue to happen for the top-flight athlete.

Texans beat writer DJ Bien-Aime noticed that both of Fields' sacks came after hitching when his first read wasn't open. Going through his progressions and keeping a proper internal clock in the pocket were two of the biggest issues that sunk Fields' career with the Bears.

Some found irony in the fact that Danielle Hunter, an old NFC North foe who left the Vikings for the Texans in the offseason, was once again getting to Fields and causing problems in his new home.

Fields was able to flex a very nice arm when he got time to throw, as one of his more impressive plays was a bullet down the sideline to the always-impressive George Pickens.

While it was just a handful of plays in the preseason, Steelers fans got a very direct introduction to the highs and lows of a Fields-quarterbacked team.
