LaDainian Tomlinson wanted a ring but could not find it outside San Diego

Everyone remembers LaDainian Tomlinson as a San Diego Charger. He might have been their most iconic player to ever don their uniform. Now the Chargers call LA home, but before that, they had one of the most explosive offenses led behind Tomlinson and Phillip Rivers throughout the 2000s. Despite that success, there was not much else to celebrate.

He was able to tally Hall of Fame numbers for himself and the club won games in the regular season, but the same issues reared its ugly head. The constant failures in the postseason are what really caused Tomlinson to look at all avenues once he became a free agent. He took a hard look at his options as he searched for the best chance at a Super Bowl.

He landed in New York with the Jets as he seemed like a good fit to balance a good rushing attack with a strong defense. His first season with the Jets was one of his best compared to the final three seasons before he retired. His dream seemed to finally begin to materialize to reach the Super Bowl as he went into the AFC championship game against the Steelers.

There was no happy ending there as Pittsburgh was able to defeat the Jets and Tomlinson would retire after the following season. He never made it to the Super Bowl, but he had one of the best careers for an NFL back. It is weird seeing him in a Jets jersey with the type of numbers and history that he made in San Diego.
