4 free agents Steelers should let walk in 2024
By Ryan Heckman
3. Chandon Sullivan, CB
Going back to the cornerback position, this is truly an area where the Steelers have to get some long-term help. Chandon Sullivan has operated as the Steelers' starting nickel corner this year, and he has struggled, to say the least.
On the season, Sullivan has given up a 70 percent completion rate on passes thrown his way. While he hasn't been tried all that much in coverage, in terms of being singled-out by opposing passers, Sullivan has been mediocre at best. He is giving up an average of 9.9 yards per reception, for what it's worth. And, that's essentially an automatic first down on 70 percent of targets thrown his direction.
You will notice a theme, here, as we finish out the list, but once again we're bringing up the run defense. Sullivan has been atrocious against the run this year, and that's one area you cannot afford to let slip up from your starting slot cornerback.
If you asked Pro Football Focus, Sullivan has been given a season-long grade of just 37.5 in the run defense department through Week 15. He has missed over 17 percent of his tackles on the year.
The Steelers need to find a replacement, plain and simple.
