The Pittsburgh Steelers had some substantial roster turnover during the 2023 offseason. On paper, their roster improved as much as any team in the league over the past several months. Now the pressure is on for this team that hasn't won a playoff game since 2016. But before they can prove themselves in the regular season, the Steelers will hold their preseason this summer.
It's true that the final outcome of preseason games doesn't have any bearing on what happens during the actual season, these games are still important -- especially for a team like the Steelers. With so many new projected starters, these games will give players the opportunity to build chemistry with one another before a busy regular season.
With the additional 17th game in the NFL schedule, the league has reduced the preseason from four games down to just three. The Steelers will only host one preseason game in 2023 due to having the extra home game during the regular season.
Steelers 2023 preseason schedule
- Friday, August 11th - TBD: @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Saturday, August 19th - 6:30 PM: vs Buffalo Bills
- Date and Time TBD: @ Atlanta Falcons
The Pittsburgh Steelers will play their first preseason game in Florida at Tampa Bay on August 11th. The exact time of this game has not been announced, but it will no doubt be in the evening -- likely kicking off between 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
From there, they will host the Bills on the following Saturday for their second preseason game of 2023. The date and time for their final preseason game on the road against the Atlanta Falcons has not been announced as of the official NFL schedule release.
With seven draft picks and a handful of new projected starters on defense, it will be interesting to see how much playing time Mike Tomlin gives to players like Patrick Peterson, Isaac Seumalo, Cole Holcomb, Broderick Jones, Joey Porter Jr., and Keeanu Benton. These new additions are expected to play significant roles on the Steelers this year, and as much as one-third of their starting lineup could be changed from last year.
Avoiding injuries is the key to a successful preseason, but we also can't wait to watch this new-look Pittsburgh Steelers team in action for the first time late this summer. Will Kenny Pickett get a chance to mesh with his teammates, and who will steal the show this August?
Keep checking back as we will post the updated date and times of games as well as the results from each Steelers preseason matchup.
