Wide Receiver Targets

One of the most slept-on needs for the Steelers this offseason is wide receiver. The team has very little depth at the position, as Diontae Johnson and George Pickens were the only reliable options for the team last year. Add to that the fact that Johnson's name has been floated in trade rumors, and that could make that an even bigger position of need.

However, we're operating under the assumption that Johnson stays, as that is the most likely outcome. Even with Johnson and Pickens, the team needs a slot receiver badly and depth in case one of them were to go down. To make things easier, the Steelers should cut Allen Robinson to clear some additional cap space.

There are quite a few free agents available at the wide receiver position but the three that fit what the Steelers are looking for the most are Tyler Boyd, Curtis Samuel, and K.J. Osborn. Boyd is the best fit of the three as, he presents the team with veteran leadership, reliable hands in the slot, and the ability to take on a bigger target share if either of the top guys went down.

However, either Samuel or Osborn would not be a bad consolation prize for the Steelers. Samuel is 28 and would be a nice slot option for the Steelers. He would be an interesting piece for the Steelers, as he is essentially Deebo Samuel lite, as he creates a ton of yards after the catch, has good speed, and can even take some carries. Adding him to the offense would add a new component for defenses to worry about and could be a smart move.

As for Osborn, he is the clear number three of these options, but that's no knock on him. Osborn has been a solid number-three option for the Vikings and has even spent his fair share of time as the number two when injuries have arisen. It has always felt like there was more coming from Osborn, and thus it feels like there is some untapped potential in him, that could be found in the right situation.
