Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports dropped a bombshell report on the Steelers. In his recent article, he stated that Pittsburgh is convinced that it will land one of the top receivers potentially out there on the trade market. According to an inside source on the team, he heard that they feel comfortable with where the team is and how the trade process will play out. The Steelers could desperately use an upgrade at receiver.
"Sooner or later, this may all work out in Pittsburgh's favor. Khan has long been in discussions with other teams about receivers that could be traded. And, according to a team source, the Steelers are "convinced" they are going to land Aiyuk, DK Metcalf, or Tyreek Hill in a trade at some point."
With trade prices at an all-time high, Omar Khan is prepared to play the waiting game necessary to get someone at a reasonable price.
"He's (Khan) more than willing to wait out another team to get the deal that best fits the Steelers, not acquiesce to the demands laid out by anyone fielding calls about trades."
No matter what, it seems like Pittsburgh will remain in trade rumors for the foreseeable future. Either one of the three receivers listed in this report would certainly get the fan base excited. They would bring significant cap charges, but they would also provide upgrades at the position. Time will only tell if asking prices get low enough for Khan to swing a deal.
Brandon Aiyuk
Everyone who follows the Steelers closely has heard the rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk and Pittsburgh.
It makes sense as the team needs an upgrade at receiver, and Aiyuk is one of the best ones out there. His fit is obvious, and he remains at a "hold-in" with the 49ers at their training camp as he awaits a contract extension. He would demand a pricey raise on his next deal, and it could cost an arm and a leg to acquire him. It would make sense for the 49ers to trade Aiyuk to the AFC rather than an NFC foe.
DK Metcalf
This one brings a Russell Wilson factor with it. DK Metcalf has been one of the best receivers for Seattle since they drafted him five years ago. His quality production led him to get a three-year extension two years ago, which will expire following the 2025 season. Adding Metcalf would make a ton of sense as the team would keep a window open for extending George Pickens down the line.
Don't forget Metcalf and Wilson remain close as both held private workouts together this past offseason, only fueling the trade rumors further.
Tyreek Hill
Here is the most eye-opening part of Halicke's report. No one has mentioned Tyreek Hill in trade rumors surrounding the Steelers yet. This puts his name on the map of the lost list of potential trade targets for Pittsburgh. Hill has stated that he would like to get a contract extension put in place even though he has two seasons remaining on his current deal.
Hill wants to cash in while the market is hot for receivers. Miami will have some cap issues as they need to pay their quarterback. That could open the door for someone like Hill to become available on the trade market. Matching his speed with George Pickens would provide a fantastic duo.
Despite this name being thrown out there, Hill did mention he doesn't want to be traded, but things change fast in the NFL.
