Things are about to get really busy for coaches and front-office executives in Indianapolis. The 2023 NFL Combine kicked off this week, and media personnel are scrambling to hear from teams. Prior to player drills and weigh-in, the Pittsburgh Steelers already have their hands full.

So far, teams have only been able to get their first real look at defensive linemen and linebackers, but the rest are soon to follow. Here is the latest Steelers news you need to know.

Steelers news

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers brass reportedly met with numerous defenders at the NFL Combine. These meetings include a number of visits of high-profile players expected to go early in the 2023 NFL Draft.

According to multiple sources on hand, the Steelers have met with high-profile players like EDGE Lukas Van Ness, DL Bryan Bresee, EDGE Nolan Smith, and LB Drew Sanders among many others. Some of these players may have formal meetings later on as well. We will be monitoring each of Pittsburgh's NFL Combine visits throughout the week at Still Curtain.

In other Steelers news, new general manager Omar Khan recently addressed Pittsburgh's salary cap situation. Here's what he had to say on the matter during the media session, according to the official Pittsburgh Steelers YouTube account:

""We're obviously in a lot better shape than we have been in the past. There were years where we've had to... do some things. We're comfortable, and if there's an opportunity to improve our team somewhere, we can make things happen and sign. There's nothing that's going to be holding us back.""
Omar Khan

Interestingly, however, the Steelers currently sit just below the negative line in terms of cap space, per Over the Cap. In order to get anything done this offseason, it's going to require a number of cuts and restructures. Some of these (like cutting CB William Jackson) will be easy to make. Others will prove to be tougher decisions for the team.

NFL news

In news pertaining to the NFL Draft, an arrest warrant has been issued for star defensive line prospect, Jalen Carter. The former Georgia Bulldog is wanted for reckless driving and racing.

Carter insists that he 'will be fully exonerated,' but the latest misdemeanor may have teams at the top of the draft board weighing potential character issues that could arise. This isn't the first time Carter's character has been mentioned, and it's an issue that may be discussed throughout the pre-draft process.
