The Pittsburgh Steelers have been quiet since the 2024 NFL Draft, but things are about to start heating up. Over the next few months, Omar Khan will put the finishing touches on his 90-man summer roster.

Preparations are already taking place as the Steelers added another former Arthur Smith player to their roster. The latest Steelers news revolved around a new receiver in Pittsburgh and a former receiver who just hit the free-agent market.

Steelers sign WR Scotty Miller

The Pittsburgh Steelers recently signed former Buccaneers and Falcons wide receiver Scotty Miller, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. During his first five NFL seasons, Miller worked as a slot receiver and deep threat. His best years came in 2020 and 2022 as a member of the Buccaneers.

Last year, Miller joined Arthur Smith in Atlanta where he recorded just 11 receptions for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns in 17 games. Miller will offer depth to the wide receiver position in Pittsburgh.

The decision to sign Miller is interesting, considering the Steelers already have a number of slot receivers like Quez Watkins, Calvin Austin III, and third-round draft pick, Roman Wilson. Miller joins WR Van Jefferson and TE MyCole Pruitt as the third former Falcons player to join Arthur Smith's offense.

Martavis Bryant released by Cowboys

Just minutes after Schefter reported the Steelers were signing Scotty Miller, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network confirmed that the Dallas Cowboys were releasing WR Martavis Bryant.

Bryant was once a pivotal player and explosive offensive weapon for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2014 to 2017, but suspensions forced him out the door (and ultimately out of the league). After stints with the Fan Controlled Football League and the XFL, Bryant was hoping to revive his career in Dallas, but that won't happen.

Pelissero reports that other teams are interested in bringing in Bryant for a visit. Even at 32 years old and five years removed from the NFL, Martavis is catching the attention of the NFL. He will attempt to land on a summer roster with the hopes of cracking a team's 53-man roster for the 2024 season.

Steelers announce jersey numbers for 2024 rookie draft class

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially announced the jersey numbers of all seven draft picks this year. Here are the numbers Pittsburgh's rookies will wear as rookie minicamp begins next week:

  • No. 76: Troy Fautanu (Round 1)
  • No. 54: Zach Frazier (Round 2)
  • No. 10: Roman Wilson (Round 3)
  • No. 41: Payton Wilson (Round 3)
  • No. 66: Mason McCormick (Round 4)
  • No. 74: Logan Lee (Round 6)
  • No. 29: Ryan Watts (Round 6)

Only two players (Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier) have rookie numbers that have been confirmed for the 2024 season. The other five rookie draft picks will have the ability to change their number before the start of the season when other numbers become available following roster cuts.
