Steelers power rankings roundup: Gathering where all the experts rank the Steelers after Week 3
By Tommy Jaggi
The Pittsburgh Steelers couldn't have asked for a better start to their 2024 season. With quarterback Russell Wilson sidelined, Justin Fields led the team to a 3-0 record entering Week 4. Getting past the Falcons, Broncos, and Chargers was made possible thanks to ball-control offense and the league's best defense.
While there is more than enough room to improve -- particularly when it comes to putting points on the board -- the Steelers are off to an electric start with a well-rounded roster, solid quarterback play, and much-improved offensive play-calling.
Since the start of the season, Pittsburgh has steadily risen in the NFL power rankings. Here's where some notable media outlets have the Steelers pegged among their peers entering Week 4.
Steelers Week 4 NFL power ranking roundup:
Eric Edholm, NFL.com: 9th
NFL.com's Eric Edholm has the Steelers cracking the top 10 teams following Week 3. This comes after a significant five-spot jump from where they were after Week 2. Edholm points to a Justin Fields' best game as a Steeler as a reason for the jump. Pittsburgh leapfrogs notable teams like the Saints and 49ers in NFL.com's power rankings.
NFL Nation, ESPN: 7th
The NFL Nation crew at ESPN has the Steelers skyrocketing from 12th in the power rankings after Week 2 all the way to 7th after Week 3. Brooke Pryor notes the impact of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, though acknowledges Pittsburgh's red zone efficiency needs to improve.
Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: 5th
Pete Prisco is buying all the stock in the Steelers hype. The CBS analyst applauds Pittsburgh for their physical play week in and week out. Prisco acknowledges that this team doesn't win pretty, but they know how to get the job done. This is a five-spot jump from Prisco's Week 3 power rankings.
David Helman, FOX Sports: 14th
FOX Sports' David Helman is the outcast here. As nearly every major outlet declares Pittsburgh a top 10 team entering Week 4, Helman has the Steelers slotted 14th in his latest NFL power rankings. This included only a two-spot improvement following the Week 3 win against the Chargers. Helman has the Steelers leapfrogging the Bengals and Cowboys, but trailing the Buccaneers.
Nate Davis, USA Today: 8th
It's hard to complain about the Steelers being ranked 8th in USA Today's NFL power rankings. Nate Davis has Mike Tomlin's squad moving up from the 12th spot a week ago, but trailing teams like the Packers, Eagles, and Lions.
Scott Rogust, FanSided: 5th
FanSided.com has the Pittsburgh Steelers climbing from 8th to 5th in the latest power rankings. T.J. Watt and the defense have held their opponent to a mere 8.7 points per game while playing mistake-free football. With how low the offensive outputs have been around the league early in 2024, this is a recipe for success.
