Outside Linebackers (4): T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Markus Golden, Nick Herbig

What a difference a year makes! While Watt and Highsmith form the best tandem of outside linebackers in the league, the Steelers needed to find a couple of players who would do a better job in a reserve role when called upon.

There's no question that they did that for the 2023 campaign, as Golden and rookie Nick Herbig are a superior upgrade over last season's backups. Herbig looks like he could be the next Steelers' Superstar OLB, while Golden brings a solid, veteran presence to the group.

David Perales, Toby Ndukwe and Quincy Roche won't make the team, but at least two of the three could end up on the Steelers' practice squad.

Inside Linebackers (5): Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts, Kwon Alexander, Mark Robinson, Tanner Muse

What a difference a year makes, part two! The Steelers totally revamped their inside linebacker group, with Robinson being the only returnee to the fold.

Holcomb, Roberts, and Alexander are clear upgrades to last season's group. From the looks of it, Holcomb will be a consistent starter with Roberts and Alexander splitting time at the other inside linebacker spot.

All three are thumpers, something the Steelers have missed on the inside the last few years. It's exciting to think about how great this defense can be when you account for this trio of playmakers.

Robinson is also a thumper, but he's not experienced enough yet to get regular playing time. He'll be a core special teamer along with free agent signee Muse.
