For months now, there have been rumors of a Brandon Aiyuk trade. The big question has been, where will he go? One of the top rumored destinations has been, of course, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Recently, there have been a plethora of reports, whispers and rumors in regards to ... well, both sides of the story. Just a few days ago, Aiyuk was spotted giving a pretty significant handshake and greeting to his head coach, Kyle Shanahan, and general manager, John Lynch, at a training camp practice.

And then, Monday night, rumors started flying once again that a deal had, in fact, been agreed to in order for the Steelers to land the star wide receiver.

However, a well-respected NFL insider took to social media to do what all insiders do best: break news.

The only problem? The news wasn't positive for Pittsburgh; at least, not yet.

A Brandon Aiyuk-Steelers trade has not yet been finalized

What's interesting to note from Jordan Schultz's report is the fact that "several teams" have had discussions with the 49ers.

If you were to believe some insiders, such as Dianna Russini, you would have thought there's no chance Aiyuk is traded. Also just days ago, Russini gave her opinion on the matter and said, in a nutshell, she believes Aiyuk will be in San Francisco this season.

The veteran wide receiver is on the last year of his rookie deal, a fifth-year option, which is set to pay him just over $14 million this season. In the middle of a leaegue where it seems there is no limit on what a wide receiver (or quarterback, for that matter) can make, Aiyuk is hoping to cash-in.

Now, will he ultimately get traded? Or, with the 49ers figure out a new contract that keeps him in San Francisco?

The Niners are also on the hook for a Deebo Samuel contract which is counting $28.6 million against their cap this year and over $24 million in 2025. Clearly, this is a fluid situation with many aspects to it.

But, for now, Aiyuk is still a 49er.

For now.
