The Pittsburgh Steelers will once again hold their training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Fans looking to catch their team in action this summer will have sixteen dates to choose from.

In past years, most Steelers training camp practices began promptly at 1:55 p.m. Eastern Time. While there are four weekend practices scheduled to begin at this time, most practices will start at 10:30 a.m. ET.

The team will also hold its annual Friday Night Lights practice on Friday, August 2 at Latrobe Memorial Stadium. This is the only practice that won't be held on Saint Vincent's College campus.

For every other practice, fans can sit on the hillside, bring a lawn chair, or come early enough to find a spot on the bleachers overlooking the four practice fields the Steelers will be using for training camp. There will be food vendors and a chance for a handful of lucky fans to snag autographs after practice.

Steelers training camp joint practice schedule

The Pittsburgh Steelers will hold just one joint practice with an opponent this year. This will take place on August 15 at Acrisure Stadium against the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately for fans, this practice against the Bills comes one day after practices close to the public.

Buffalo defeated Pittsburgh in the Wild Card round of the playoffs last year, and many fans expect this practice to get chippy. The Steelers will host the Bills two days after their practice on Saturday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. ET for their second preseason game.

Steelers training camp positional battles to watch

Every year at training camp, there are several key positional battles that fans have their eyes on. This year, the battles are bigger than ever with potential monumental implications. Here are some of the biggest camp battles to keep a close eye on in 2024.

Quarterback

The word all along from the coaching staff is that Russell Wilson is in 'pole position' to be the team's starting quarterback in training camp, but that doesn't mean opinions can't change as camp progresses. Mike Tomlin has always been a fan of Justin Fields, and the former 11th overall pick is out to revive his NFL career.

Fields is ten years younger than Wilson with tremendous athletic traits and a big arm. Will it be enough to surpass the savvy veteran on the depth chart? Steelers training camp could answer the biggest question we had all offseason.

Wide receiver

Barring a trade for a star player, there's no question that George Pickens is the team's top wide receiver in 2024. But who will step up into the WR2 role? The Steelers signed veterans Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins, and Scotty Miller during the offseason, and each player will be jousting for position.

Meanwhile, the Steelers selected Michigan's Roman Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, while Calvin Austin III impressed in offseason workouts. The winner of the battle will have a big role in Pittsburgh's offense this year.

Offensive tackle

The only thing we know for certain at offensive tackle is that 2023 first-round pick, Broderick Jones, will be starting. We can assume this will come at left tackle (after playing out of position as a rookie last year). Outside of that, it remains to be seen.

The Steelers spent their first-round pick in April on Washington OT Troy Fautanu. He will battle it out with Dan Moore Jr. for the other starting offensive tackle spot. Fans are hoping Fautanu wins the job from the gate to maximize the upside of this offensive line.

Linebacker

The Pittsburgh Steelers suddenly have a surplus of depth at the off-ball linebacker position. Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson join Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts, and how the team will split snaps between these four players is a mystery.

Additionally, there will be a battle for the final linebacker spot that could come down to Mark Robinson, Tyler Matakevich, Kyron Johnson, or Tyler Murray. Keep your eye on this position during Steelers training camp to see where each linebacker falls in the pecking order.
