Steelers vs. Raiders: Writers' picks and predictions for crucial Week 3 matchup
Final prediction has the Steelers winning, but the offensive issues persist
This game will come down to a couple of different things that will directly affect the outcome of this contest. The Steelers must shut down Josh Jacobs and Las Vegas' running game. If they accomplish that then they will be able to rush the passer and help their struggling secondary. That will put the game on Garoppolo's shoulders, which has not worked out too well thus far.
The name of the game here is going to be Pittsburgh's offense. This is where things need to get right, or this problem might be toxic enough to derail the entire season. The Raiders defense has some quality pieces installed, but they have more holes than Swiss cheese. The Steelers offense, namely Pickett, must take advantage and get everything right on Sunday night.
Steelers win 20-17
There is hope that Pickett can rebound here, and he should be able to. The issue is that there are other problems on offense that are out of his control. Expect the Raiders to get some pass rush on Pickett and cause a turnover or two that causes this game to stay close. Pickett does end the day here with a last-minute drive to get in field goal territory for Chris Boswell.
The defense should be able to apply pressure on Garoppolo if they can stop the rushing attack by the Raiders. This is a needed win for the Steelers as they will face tougher opponents down the line. Every AFC matchup is going to be vital for their playoff chances down the line. The offense needs to show life this week, especially in big moments in the game.
