Steelers X-Factor RB is more than capable of emulating Alvin Kamara-like stats

The Pittsburgh Steelers have the depth to replicate Alvin Kamara's success in the passing game. They just need to utilize their X-Factors.

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense is evolving as they move through the 2024 season. The most promising developments centers around a dynamic running back core. Jaylen Warren had a breakout season in 2023. He earned 1,154 all-purpose yards while sharing the backfield. His performance raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about his potential to unlock a more efficient and dynamic playbook for the Steelers.

Warren’s versatility has all the makings of an all-purpose back, capable of contributing to the run-and-pass game. His skill set, particularly his ability to be a weapon in the passing game, mirrors the talents of New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara. The Saints displayed how to use a high-caliber dual-threat running back Sunday afternoon.

Kamara scored four touchdowns and finished with 180 all-purpose yards in Week 2. His proficiency as a runner and receiver allows New Orleans to exploit matchups, stretch defenses, and create opportunities in critical moments.

Pittsburgh Steelers offense would benefit from Alvin Kamara approach

Similarly, the Steelers could benefit from giving Warren more opportunities in the passing game. His quickness, reliable hands, and open-field vision make him an ideal candidate to relieve pressure from quarterback Justin Fields, who is still developing in his role. Warren’s ability to turn short passes into substantial gains adds invaluable safety and reliability. Especially in high-pressure situations.

If the Steelers deploy Warren as frequently as the Saints use Kamara, the potential for explosive plays—and more frequent trips to the end zone—becomes much more realistic.

Kamara’s success also illustrates the importance of timing and usage. The Saints know when to lean on Kamara, and when they do, the results are typically impressive. Warren has shown signs of having the same impact for the Steelers, but only if the coaching staff allows his chances to become more of a central figure in their offensive schemes. Najee Harris is playing decent, but cannot do what Warren can.

For Justin Fields, an expanded role for Warren could provide a much-needed security blanket. Incorporating more running back involvement in the passing game leads to safer, high-percentage throws, which could help Fields gain confidence and find his rhythm as the season progresses. It will lead to more success in Pittsburgh and a promising future for the young gunslinger.

As Warren’s role expands, the Steelers’ offense will become more multi-dimensional and harder to defend.
