Steelers might bite the bullet with Myles Jack

I have been all over the place with Myles Jack this offseason. While I wasn’t as high on the signing as a lot of people were, I did expect overall better play. He was sound for the first few weeks but really faded down the stretch. It got to the point where he was in a three-man rotation with Mark Robinson and Robert Spillane, not exactly elite company.

On one hand, Jack is owed a lot of money and the team could save 8 million dollars by releasing him. His play faded and seeing him rotate in was a big blow to my confidence in him sticking around. On the other hand, that leaves Robinson as the only returning linebacker, which is also not a good place to be. Jack has a year in the system and some experience, so the team may hope he plays better.

I’ve seen some people float out the idea of an extension to lower his cap hit (which is silly, as you shouldn’t extend bad players). I could see the team biting the bullet at least through the draft to see how the room looks before camp. If that happened, it wouldn’t shock me to see Jack carried into camp. He was disappointing last year, but the Steelers may feel forced to keep him.
