Most of the news relating to the Pittsburgh Steelers, lately, has been in regards to a certain decision by a certain veteran quarterback which may or may not be coming soon.
Yes, it's Aaron Rodgers. And, no, as of this moment, he has not made his decision.
But, the Steelers might just get a little bit of roundabout help in helping Rodgers choose Pittsburgh. Already having traded for wide receiver DK Metcalf, who knows if the Steelers are done yet at the position. After all, this is a team that's been in on countless wide receiver talks over the past year or so.
Metcalf and George Pickens are a nice duo, but what if the Rams turned it into a trio featuring a former All-Pro?
The Los Angeles Rams are almost certain to end up releasing wide receiver Cooper Kupp after being unable to find a trade partner.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Cooper Kupp might be the final piece to the puzzle in Aaron Rodgers' looming decision
With the Rams recently signing Davante Adams, that basically ended up being the final nail in the coffin for Kupp's tenure in L.A.
He's already been looking ahead after announcing publicly, on social media, that the Rams were trying to trade him. At this point in his career, and with injuries being a fair concern, Kupp would likely love to go somewhere that gives him a chance at another Super Bowl.
Update: The Rams have informed Kupp of his release (2:02 pm ET, per Tom Pelissero)
If he came to Pittsburgh, it would be tough for Rodgers to turn down the Steelers and spurn them for the New York Giants. If these are, indeed, the final two teams he's choosing from, then the decision couldn't be clearer.
To be quite frank, the decision should already be clear. Pittsburgh has a team that's ready to win right now, under one of the league's most highly-respected head coaches, and comes with enough weapons for Rodgers to work with.
Would Kupp be enough to push Rodgers into signing with Pittsburgh? You'd have to believe it would certainly help -- a lot.
When he's on the field, Kupp is still one of the league's top receivers as a guy who gets open better than most and he'll also catch everything. Having always boasted top-end route running and a natural instinct for finding soft spots in defenses, Kupp could be Rodgers' best friend.
And, near the goal line, imagine the kind of damage Kupp and Rodgers could do together.
Are we manifesting this into existence? It just might work.
