With NFL training camps starting, Pittsburgh Steelers fans are already getting pumped up for another fun-filled season. For many, this includes purchasing tickets to Steelers games, while others plan to enjoy the 2025 season from the comfort of their home. Wherever you land, fans always love the thrill of purchasing new Steelers gear, and we can give you pointers on what to look for.

Steelers shops and athletic stores are going to be packed with Steelers jerseys—possibly even the newly-released 'legacy' jerseys, which were met with mixed reviews. But how do you know which jersey to purchase?

NFL jerseys aren't cheap, and you'll want to get the most bang for your buck. Fans would hate to buy the jersey of a player who won't be around for the long haul just to get buried in the back of their closet. Because of this, I've taken the liberty of ranking the seven safest Pittsburgh Steelers to purchase that won't go outdated anytime soon.

Ranking the best Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys to purchase ahead of the 2025 season

1. T.J. Watt (No. 90)

For obvious reasons, T.J. Watt's No. 90 jersey claims the number one spot for the best and safest Steelers jerseys to purchase this year. With Watt inking a three-year, $123 million contract extension, the four-time First-Team All-Pro and 2021 Defensive Player of the Year will be with the Steelers through at least the 2027 season and is under contract through 2028. Watt has strung together a Hall of Fame resume, and this jersey should never go outdated.

2. Cameron Heyward (No. 97)

Though Cam Heyward is reaching the tail end of his football career, the legends never die. Heyward doesn't have the same Hall of Fame chances as Watt, but he's a player the Steelers seem destined to have finish his career in Pittsburgh. That No. 97 jersey can be worn 10 years from now and still not feel out of place, even if Heyward only has a year or two left in the tank.

3. Zach Frazier (No. 54)

Purchasing the jersey of an offensive lineman admittedly isn't the sexiest pick, but if you want to sport the jersey of a player who likely will be suiting up for the Steelers for a long time, Zach Frazier is a safe bet. The 2024 second-round pick already looks like a top-five NFL center, and if he follows in the footsteps of Mike Webster, Dermontti Dawson, and Maurkice Pouncey, you certainly won't regret this purchase.

4. DK Metcalf (No. 4)

DK Metcalf is a new addition, so you're not getting the Steelers-for-life benefit here. Still, when the two-time Pro Bowl receiver inked a four-year, $132 million contract extension after being traded to Pittsburgh, it made this jersey a safe bet for the foreseeable future. Everyone loves the flashiness of wide receivers, and that No. 4 will be good for a minimum of three years, with the potential to be worn frequently all the way through 2029.

5. Derrick Harmon (No. 99)

This is a high-risk, high-reward jersey purchase. Though Derrick Harmon has yet to take a snap in a game for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 21-year-old rookie has loads of upside and is easy to root for. If he ends up being the long-term replacement for Cam Heyward, this is a jersey that can be worn for the next decade. If not, we at least know that Harmon will be here for the next four years. Of course, there's always a chance that he busts and you're embarrassed to wear this jersey in public.

6. Alex Highsmith (No. 56)

Alex Highsmith is one of the best and most consistent players on the Steelers' roster, but after T.J. Watt signed a mega-deal this summer, there's no guarantee that he sees a third contract with Pittsburgh. Regardless, Highsmith has already given this team five good seasons and is under contract through 2027. If he leaves when his contract is up, this will still feel like a LaMarr Woodley jersey—still more than wearable even if he plays his final seasons on other NFL teams.

7. Kaleb Johnson (No. 20)

Like the Derrick Harmon jersey purchase, this one has boom or bust potential. Kaleb Johnson has a workhorse running back profile and could take over the starting gig as early as his rookie season. As a second-round pick, Johnson will have four years with the Steelers under his rookie contract, and if all goes well, he could see a second deal with Pittsburgh. Running backs are typically fan-favorites, and Kaleb Johnson jerseys could be flying off the shelf as early as the 2026 offseason if he has a good rookie campaign.
