After six weeks of play, the Steelers sit at a 4-2 record. Even though many would be happy with that standing, Pittsburgh still has plenty of problems popping up. Offense remains an issue even though they were finally able to break past the 30-point threshold for the first time in a while. Much of their scoring success came from their defense causing a turnover and creating short-field scenarios.
There is still plenty of football left to be played for the black and gold. It is possible that they could keep their winning ways going, or they could start to decline in a hurry. Justin Fields has been inconsistent, especially when it comes to his passing ability. That could fluctuate a team's success in a hurry. There are plenty of ways a mock draft could change for the Steelers, but they need to add quality pieces on offense.
Steelers mock draft round 1: Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
After a breakout campaign by Luther Burden III last season, he is trying to keep that momentum going. Sadly, Missouri has not been as good of a team to start the year, and that has slightly dropped Burden's numbers. He is still on schedule to score a ton of touchdowns, but a slight uptick in his yardage would boost his draft stock. Pittsburgh will also like that he can be electric on special teams.
Steelers mock draft round 2: Omarion Hampton, RB, North Carolina
Even though Najee Harris had a strong performance in Week 6, he will be gone after this campaign. Omarion Hampton would be terrific value for the Steelers at this point in the draft. The production that he produced from last season and into his current year has been off the charts. He can truly do it all. Hampton would be a magnificent upgrade over Harris for the Steelers.
Steelers mock draft round 3: Tommi Hill, CB, Nebraska
Donte Jackson has been a terrific addition to the Steelers thus far, but the team needs a contingency plan if Jackson leaves in free agency. Tommi Hill is someone who has a good chunk of starting experience. He needs to start putting up better numbers for the remainder of this year, but he has good size and prior production. He is an athletic guy who was one of the better corners in the Big Ten last season.
Steelers mock draft round 4: Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon
After starting off his career at Michigan State, Derrick Harmon transferred to Oregon. That decision has been paying dividends for the big man. He is on track for a breakout year. Many saw him as a run-stuffer to begin the season, but he has shown the ability to rush the passer. The Steelers could still use an infusion of youth in the trenches and Harmon would be a nice project player up front.
Steelers mock draft round 5: Kyle McCord, QB, Syracuse
Even if Justin Fields or Russell Wilson becomes the starting quarterback of the future, the Steelers will still need to take a guy in the draft. Each quarterback on the roster is on expiring deals. Replacing them with a developmental guy might be the best case and Kyle McCord could become a reliable backup. He has a ton of college starts and has surged his production since joining Syracuse.
Steelers mock draft round 5: Hollin Pierce, OT, Rutgers
Like it or not Dan Moore Jr. has been reliable for the Steelers this season. He will get paid a lot of money in free agency. Pittsburgh will roll with their young tackles next year, but they need depth and that is where Hollin Pierce comes into the picture. He is a mountain of a player and someone who could develop into an interesting tackle in the NFL. Would be a terrific pick for the Steelers.
Steelers mock draft round 7: Collin Oliver, EDGE, Oklahoma State
He started off his college career strong at Oklahoma State but has since slowed down. Collin Oliver was primed for a big season, but a foot injury has sidelined him for a month. He should be back soon, but he needs to produce at a high level to stay in the draft conversation. Oliver's lack of size could scare some, but the Steelers seem to lean into speed rushing as a good technique.
Steelers mock draft round 7: Devonte Ross, WR, Troy
Already took a receiver in this mock draft, but the Steelers should take a couple this time around. Devonte Ross is sitting there and Pittsburgh would be foolish not to take him at this spot. He comes from a small program, but he has been putting up high numbers throughout this season thus far. He is a small receiver, but you cannot deny the explosiveness that he has been showing this year.
