Steelers can't use weather as an excuse this time for Sunday Night Football
By Tommy Jaggi
We don't have to think far back to the last time the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted a Sunday Night Football game. In Week 5, all eyes were on Mike Tomlin's team as they welcomed the Dallas Cowboys to town in a highly-anticipated matchup between two storied franchises. Unfortunately, the weather played a tremendous factor.
After ninety minutes of delays for lightning strikes, the Steelers and Cowboys took the waterlogged field at Acrisure Stadium in a game. Players from both sides had a hard time finding their footing and Pittsburgh struggled to move the ball against a porous defense void of talent in a game that crept into the early hours of Monday morning.
This time around, the Steelers won't be able to use the weather as an excuse on Sunday Night Football.
Weather report is encouraging for Steelers vs. Jets game
The Steelers are preparing to host Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Sunday night. Thankfully, the weather conditions couldn't be more different from what we saw in the Week 5 fiasco.
In stark contrast to the monsoon-like conditions in Week 5, Sunday in Pittsburgh should be beautiful with highs reaching 76 degrees with clear skies during the day. By the evening, when these teams are set to kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET, we can expect cool temperatures floating around 53 degrees with 61 percent humidity, 7 mph wind gusts, and no chance of rain, according to AccuWeather.com.
It's worth noting the Pitt Panthers played at Acrisure Stadium on October 12, but sharing the field with a college football team is nothing new. The crew at Acrisure has had more than enough time to get the field back in order for Sunday Night Football in Week 7.
Both teams will be without an excuse, as the weather conditions won't prevent teams from pulling out all the stops. This means that Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will have no restrictions with his game plan this week and we shouldn't see players slipping like they did the last time they suited up in Pittsburgh.
Unfortunately, it also means that Aaron Rodgers and his long-lost weapon Davante Adams will have picture-perfect weather conditions to rekindle their connection early and often.
For mid-October, fans attending the game couldn't ask for better weather. This is a make-or-break Week 7 AFC showdown and the Pittsburgh Steelers need to find a way to emerge victorious this time on Sunday Night Football.
