According to Ryan Burr of the Big Ten Network, the Steelers have placed a call to Jacksonville. They wanted to test the trade waters on potentially acquiring Trevor Lawrence this offseason. That would be an outside-the-box idea, but it seems unlikely to materialize. While Lawrence could fit in Arthur Smith's scheme, he hasn't lived up to the hype.

Now that the report is out in the open, Barr doesn't commonly report on professional football. It could just be smoke, or at the least, Pittsburgh called the Jaguars to search for some exterior options. Wilson and Fields still seem to be the best in line to become the starting quarterback next season. At least it appears that Omar Khan is evaluating other choices.

Barr might not be an overwhelming source of reliability on either the Jaguars or Steelers sides. That said, he does have some sources in the football world, and he claims that he spoke to top-level source within the Jacksonville organization. It would be puzzling to trade Lawrence less than a year into a monumental contract extension.

With a massive contract and coming off an injury, the rumored trade price for Lawrence is astronomical.

Steelers mock trade for Trevor Lawrence has insane asking price

According to Barr's follow-up tweet, Jacksonville's trade parameters are as follows: They would want the Steelers' top two picks in the 2025 NFL Draft for them to land Lawrence. Don't freak out Steelers fans because it would be foolish for Khan to accept this trade proposal. If Pittsburgh was willing to consider this move, then they must get a significant return in their direction.

While Lawrence has shown glimpses of brilliance during his first four years in the NFL, he hasn't lived up to the hype of being a franchise-saving number-one overall pick either. He hasn't been able to develop enough during his time with the Jaguars, but he might've struggled due to the franchise's issues with coaching turnover. Adding him to a deal would be betting on his upside in a stable environment.

If Jacksonville wants to get serious about moving Lawrence, they must reconsider their asking price. The Steelers might be comfortable making this move if a couple of high-end draft picks come back the other way. Perhaps a third and fourth-round pick that follows Lawrence would make this palatable for Pittsburgh. At least, it could get more serious conversations started.

Khan has made some concerning moves, like not landing a receiver for his offense this past year. Even though he has faults, he wouldn't stake his entire career as Steelers general manager to gamble on Lawrence. Lawrence is still young at 25 years old, but he has been too inconsistent. It's not the worst idea, but they cannot ponder it for that price.

Adding a massive contract with a young question mark at quarterback would be disastrous.
