The Bus will park in Canton
“Good things will come to those who work and wait.” Those are part of the lyrics to the Pittsburgh Polka and they definitely ring true for former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis, who after five years of being a finalist, will now forever be known as a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Bettis was announced Saturday night to be part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015. Other inductees include LB Junior Seau, WR Tim Brown, DE/LB Charles Haley, G Will Shields, contributor Bill Polian, contributor Ron Wolf, and C Mick Tingelhoff.
Teresa Varley spoke to Jerome and he was grateful to finally get the call he’s been waiting for all these years.
"“I am just grateful the writers found my career worthy of the Hall of Fame. It’s so incredible. I am so thankful to the Rooney family, the Steelers organization, the fans who have been incredible ever since the trade was made for me to come here. They have been incredible.” – Jerome Bettis"
Ben Roethlisberger Field
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger not only gives back to communities by way of his charity that provides police dogs to cities across the country, he’s also giving back to his alma mater. He and his wife have donated $1 million towards the Indoor Sports Center at Miami University.
The center, which is set to open next Friday, features a 120-yard playing surface to be called “Ben Roethlisberger Field.” The facility will impact all 19 of Miami’s sports programs to allow them to train year-round.
"“This gift is a huge thank you to everything, on and off the field that Miami University provided me. Attending Miami was one of the best decisions of my life and I am happy to play a small part in helping to rebuild this football program.” – Ben Roethlisberger"
Bell cleans up
The NFL Honors was held last night and Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell cleaned up, taking home two awards. Bell was voted the Fed Ex Ground Player of the Year as well as NFL.com’s Fantasy Player of the Year. Bell was grateful and humble, and sharply dressed as he accepted his awards, and added a “Go Steelers!” at the end of his acceptance speeches.
