Steelers Appear Serious About Tight End In 2015 Draft
The Steelers will undoubtedly select a few offensive players in this year’s draft.
They could go in any direction – they have needs at OT, TE, and RB. They could even select a WR, were the scenario right.
The pre-draft visits aren’t always the best indicator as to what direction the team will go, but if they are even a slight indication, then I think it’s safe to say that the Steelers are targeting a tight end.
The Steelers have already interviewed three TE’s: Cameron Clear from Texas A&M, TE C.J. Uzomah from Auburn, Wes Saxton from South Alabama.
It now sounds like they are adding a fourth to that list. According to a Steelers Depot post, Ohio State TE Jeff Heuerman said that he will be in Pittsburgh on Monday.

Four seems a lot for tight end. The only position the Steelers have talked to more would be cornerback. Although, these aren’t the only TE’s the team and coaches have spoken with – these are only the ones who visit the South Side. They’ve met with others on teams’ pro days.
Personally, I like Jesse James, Maxx Williams, and Nick O’Leary.
The TE class isn’t a very strong one, and so more than likely the team is doing their due diligence to find the best blocking jumbo set tight end they can find for Todd Haley.
I kid, I kid. But seriously, that’s probably what they’re doing….
Tight end will not be a hot commodity in this year’s draft (like it ever is), but we’ve gone as far as mocking the Steelers taking Maxx Williams as early as the 22nd overall pick. Unrealistic? Perhaps, but he’s about the only TE that could go late in the first.
Make no mistake, the Steelers need to find a TE that will eventually replace Heath Miller. There are only a few in this draft that have the potential. One could even make the argument that the offense needs to find a better version of Matt Spaeth.
Ok, I’m that ‘one.’
The question becomes, will the Steelers reach and select one of them early enough or will they hold off for the later rounds?
