4 winners (and 3 losers) from Steelers' slim Week 10 win vs. Commanders
By Andrew Falce
It was as competitive of a game as everyone expected, and the Steelers needed a lot of help, but they ultimately got the big win and remained one of the top teams in the AFC. The Commanders got into a rhythm and looked good, and for a while, it seemed like this was a lost cause, but some late-game heroics allowed Pittsburgh to secure the win.
It was a game of highs and lows, and few players had truly amazing or awful games. That said, there are a handful of names that stick out on both extremes that impacted this game. Here are the four winners and three losers from the Steelers' nail-biting win over the Commanders.
Steelers winners:
Patrick Queen
It took half of the season, but finally, Patrick Queen had a good game for the Steelers. His highlight reel was lacking early on, and considering how much money he was being paid, there were serious questions about if this was the right move. Queen has all over the field and made plays behind the line of scrimmage. It was easily his best game since joining the squad.
George Pickens
There are still some serious character concerns with George Pickens, but his play has been dynamic as of late. His early touchdown catch was spectacular, and he contributed a regular supply of big plays. When the offense stalled, they could look to Pickens and he delivered. This offense flowed through him this week.
Russell Wilson
This is one of the mixed players I mentioned earlier. Wilson came back to earth this week, but his game was saved by touchdowns. The reason he makes the winners list is because of his come-from-behind victory and his deep passes. Both the touchdowns to Pickens and Mike Williams were great, and he remained composed despite a significant deficit. I don’t think Justin Fields wins this game.
Cameron Heyward
There are a lot of people that owe Cameron Heyward an apology. Fans were calling for him to be cut or take a pay cut because of his age. He got a new deal that should allow him to retire with the team, and he earned it this week. Unreal how good he is playing at his age.
Steelers losers:
The fake punt
I rarely, if ever, but specific plays as losers, but the entire thought process that went into faking a punt deep in your own territory is dumb. Even had the play worked, it was still a dumb call. Way too risky and it allowed the Commanders to get right back into the game.
Steelers secondary
The front seven showed up this week, but the secondary was lackluster. Joey Porter allowed a few too many catches and was constantly penalized. Minkah Fitzpatrick was sloppier than usual. Donte Jackson cooled off this week and failed to make an impact. This group needs to get its act together against the Ravens.
Steelers run game
Najee Harris came back to earth this week with a grinding game that lacked efficiency. Considering the hot streak he was on and the Commanders lacking a great run defense, seeing his poor game was a disappointment. Jaylen Warren should have made the winners list based on his stats, but the late fumble nearly cost the team the game. Both players need to improve their craft before the Baltimore game.
