The Pittsburgh Steelers have built a passing game that can at least function with Aaron Rodgers at the sticks, but they haven't been able to prove they can be a legitimate contender for a championship due to how lacking in creativity and nuance this passing game is.
Rodgers is currently last in the league in both time to throw and average depth of target. Unless DK Metcalf breaks off deep down the field, this team has no verticality in addition to being a generally disappointing wide receiver room outside of their new addition from Seattle.
The Steelers are not in a position to cheap out or sit on the sidelines at the trade deadline this year, as a major addition should be a prerequisite. After months of being floated as a possible option, look for Las Vegas Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers to finally shake free.
Pittsburgh Steelers must help Aaron Rodgers by trading for WR Jakobi Meyers
Meyers is not only playing on a bad Raiders team, but he is on a team that has seemingly devalued him after striking gold with Brock Bowers and using two 2025 NFL Draft picks on Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton Jr. He is clearly begging for a new contract.
With Rodgers likely coming off the books next season and Pittsburgh lacking tons of players they are paying long-term on the offensive side of the ball, adding Meyers to the mix and giving him the contract he deserves would bring two of the Top 30 wide receivers in the game together on a possible contender.
In the short term, Rodgers may find a new best friend in Meyers, as the former Patriots standout has made a career out of separating at the line of scrimmage and securing tough catches over the middle. Even with Calvin Austin making improvements, Meyers is a clear upgrade over him.
The Steelers appear to be heading for another year of sneaking into the playoffs before getting detonated by a superior opponent unless they can bring in some sort of difference-maker. Meyers certainly qualifies, as Meyers and Metcalf would make for one of the best wide receiver tandems in the sport.
