Could making a trade call out west make sense?

No one should expect the Pittsburgh Steelers to be complete with roster transactions heading into training camp. General Manager Omar Khan has been busy in recent weeks with a desire to improve his roster before the start of the regular season.

Adding a top talent during the preseason process is desirable, allowing the player time to adapt to their new surroundings and gain an understanding of the playbook.

There are several key weaknesses on the depth chart, but the questions surrounding the receiver position remain paramount. They have Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin III as the top guys to pair with DK Metcalf going into training camp, but neither is proven. They must earn their starting spots, but the ongoing issues at the position could cause a trade in the coming weeks.

We learned in the Jalen Ramsey trade that the Steelers are willing to be aggressive. They dealt a star player to get two big-time names in return. They could be willing to move significant pieces at training camp to secure their long-lost second receiver for their offense. It will take creativity, but Pittsburgh could have a unique situation to target with the Denver Broncos.

Pittsburgh Steelers should do a monster trade to land Courtland Sutton at training camp

Their decision to make a trade inquiry with the Denver Broncos would lead to Courtland Sutton.

This wouldn't be the first time the franchise has tried to pry the veteran receiver out of Denver. They were connected to the playmaker last year, and it could pop up once more. The Steelers would produce a quality tandem if they landed Sutton. Having him and Metcalf would be a nice set of targets for Aaron Rodgers.

Denver has a massive hole at the tight end position, and Pittsburgh has plenty of talented players. It's a position of strength for the Steelers after acquiring Jonnu Smith in their blockbuster deal. With Pat Freiermuth and Smith going out to catch passes, it might shrink the possibilities for Darnell Washington.

Fans would dislike moving the massive blocking tight end, but you must give up something to get an upgrade.

The Broncos would want more than swapping Sutton for Washington one-for-one. The Steelers would need to sweeten the pot with a draft pick or two. Everything would hinge on Sutton's availability from Denver. If he pops up on the trade market, Khan would be unwise to ignore it. Pittsburgh has been aggressive, and the addition of a quality receiver during training camp would get fans fired up.

Sutton is going into a contract year, but it's possible Khan would like to add a short-term contract extension, similar to what he did with Smith. A one-to-two-year contract extension would prove worthy for Sutton. He has been a consistent weapon on offense and produced 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He shows no signs of regression as he heads into his eighth season.
