It's been a long journey for the Pittsburgh Steelers to find an upgrade since they traded George Pickens. The number two spot at the receiver position has gone through some growing pains along the way. Their attempt to resolve the issue using internal solutions has led to mixed outcomes. Roman Wilson looked promising while Calvin Austin III missed the entire preseason.

A recent post on X by insider Aaron Wilson might destroy Steelers Nation's hopes and dreams. He wrote, "Next up for Marquez Valdes-Scantling, per source: 49ers or Steelers."

Both organizations are searching for upgrades to the receiver position, and adding Valdes-Scantling would show their desperation. This would be a move that would leave fans wanting more.

The uncertainty around the receiver position remains a sticking point for the Steelers as they prepare for the regular season. Now that NFL roster cuts are complete, Pittsburgh will likely look to upgrade its lineup. Don't be shocked if they add a receiver and potentially address some other weaknesses across their depth chart.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could add Rodgers' old buddy Valdes-Scantling to their roster

Adding a veteran receiver appears like the best course of action for the team if they want to address that problem. Fans are begging the team to add an impact player if they truly believe they can compete for postseason success this time around. Bringing in Valdes-Scantling might make Aaron Rodgers happy, but the aging playmaker hasn't been an effective player for a while.

The Steelers' potential addition of Valdes-Scantling could add a deep threat, but there should be better options. Pittsburgh has been clamoring for an upgrade to Rodgers' arsenal of weaponry since Pickens left town. Unless this veteran receiver sticks on the practice squad, it doesn't make too much sense for the Steelers to add him to their roster unless Rodgers is demanding it.

With constant chatter around the Steelers adding a top-level addition to the position, settling for a player of this stature wouldn't mean much. They have options on the roster who have a better chance to succeed than Valdes-Scantling would. He has a strong connection with Rodgers, but they haven't played together since the 2021 season, which seems like a lifetime ago.

Since leaving the Green Bay Packers, the aging speedster has jumped around the league. His post-Packers career includes stints with the Chiefs, Bills, Saints, and Seahawks. He spent this past preseason in Seattle, but he failed to make their roster. That should be concerning since the Seahawks could use some explosive playmakers on their offense.
