Everyone thought this 2027 NFL Draft would be filled with talented quarterback prospects, but that train of thought continues to be disproven. The Pittsburgh Steelers should be concerned about that fact as they have been trying to locate Aaron Rodgers long-term replacement. Neither Will Howard nor Drew Allar are likely the franchise option going forward.
Sadly, Oregon quarterback Dante Moore will miss the rest of the college season due to the concussion he suffered, and it adds another setback for Pittsburgh's draft plans.
It's been a year to forget for both Moore and the Oregon Ducks. Both held high expectations going into the season, but injuries and several losses have sobered their championship hopes going into the campaign. The young quarterback only appeared in four games this year, and he will miss the remaining schedule. It could affect his draft stock, or even impact whether he declares at all.
The Steelers would certainly be interested in Dante Moore as the NFL Draft gets closer. He was one of the highest-ranked quarterbacks going into the season. Concussion issues could make Moore a potential red flag when it comes to his draft evaluation by Pittsburgh and others. He has all the talent in the world, which makes him a tough player to figure out, and it will only get more difficult.
Pittsburgh Steelers have new draft setback after QB Dante Moore will miss the rest of season
It's disappointing to see a potential high-profile prospect like Dante Moore get sidelined for most of the season before he enters the NFL Draft. He remains one of the bigger names for the Steelers to consider if they want to get aggressive and take a quarterback high in the draft, but it's not a guarantee anymore.
With his injury concerns and most of the crop of quarterbacks falling apart this year, the entire group could become a disaster.
All of that being said, Moore remains one of the safer options at the position come draft day despite his injury setback. He only played in four games for Oregon this season, and although you'd like to see more, he produced strong numbers. The quarterback threw nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also threw for 926 yards.
Moore showed he can be a quality player, even if it was in a small sample size.
Last year was when Dante Moore broke out as the Ducks' starting quarterback. He produced 3,565 passing yards and 32 total touchdowns in 15 games. He did all of that and only had ten interceptions on the year. It's clear that he wanted to improve his turnover differential this season, which he was showing before his injury. That is an area you would've liked to see improvement.
The Steelers have scouted countless quarterbacks for the 2027 NFL Draft, and although there have been many disappointing seasons by the top prospects, Moore still showed he can be a quality player. Pittsburgh will have to do a lot of homework on Moore and his health moving forward, but they cannot afford to write him off unless his injury is long-term.
