This could have been so much worse.

When the NFL officially dropped the 2025 schedule on Wednesday night, many Pittsburgh Steelers fans braced themselves. But now that we see the whole schedule laid out, it doesn't look as grim as we imagined.

After months of worrying about growing pains, roster holes, and a team still trying to find its new identity, the fear was that Pittsburgh would be handed a brutal gauntlet to start the Mike Tomlin redemption arc. But to the surprise of many, the NFL schedule makers seem to have done the black and gold a solid.

Let’s be clear: this schedule isn’t a walk in the park.

But compared to what it could have been, it’s not the nightmare some anticipated. According to CBS Sports, the Steelers rank 10th in strength of schedule.

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2025 NFL schedule is not as grueling as we think

That’s respectable, but not suffocating. In a season where Pittsburgh is working to rebuild its offensive rhythm and fortify its trenches, this level of difficulty feels almost merciful.

The campaign begins with a manageable mix. Week 1 features a trip to MetLife to face the Jets—a matchup loaded with emotion and storylines. Then, a home opener against the Seahawks gives the squad a chance to set the tone in front of fans.

Week 3 sends them to New England, followed by a grudge match with Minnesota in Week 4. An early Week 5 Bye follows the exciting opening sprint. It might feel premature, but it is invaluable for a young roster needing a breather after an emotional start.

Weeks 6 and 7 bring the first major test: divisional games against the Browns and Bengals.

That stretch will be telling. But immediately after, the Steelers return to Acrisure Stadium to host the Packers and Colts—two winnable games that could stabilize their campaign before the real grind begins.

The back half of the schedule is where things heat up. Games against the Bills, Ravens, and Lions loom large. But here'sthe thing: those aren’t just obstacles—they're measuring sticks. If this team is serious about contending again, those matchups are the proving grounds they need.

As I look over this slate, I can’t help but feel optimistic. It’s fair, balanced, and gives the Steelers time to gel before diving into deeper waters. The 2025 season will be a test.

It's not impossible. For that, the NFL schedule writers deserve a few thank-you notes from Pittsburgh.

Maybe even a Primanti’s sandwich or two.
