Davante Adams isn't the only Raiders trade candidate Steelers should target

With all eyes in Pittsburgh on Davante Adams, the Steelers could always target one of his teammates.

Ever since the Brandon Aiyuk trade saga ended in Pittsburgh, everyone has been looking for the next story. It is no secret that the Steelers desperately need to find an upgrade at wide receiver. George Pickens has been the only constant force on offense. Van Jefferson has been a disaster, and new reports are coming out about a top receiver in the NFL becoming available via trade.

Davante Adams has hit the trade block as the star receiver wants a new contract. It looks like that new deal will take place with another team, and the Steelers are not foreign to offering a trade option or a new contract. They just offered Aiyuk a new deal during their trade negotiations before they fell through.

Expect Adams to have plenty of interest around the NFL, despite his cap situation.

According to Dianna Russini of the Athletic, the Steelers and Raiders have already started negotiations about an Adams deal. We will see how this unfolds as Pittsburgh is only one of three favorites to land the star receiver. Both the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints seem to have good chances of negotiating a deal with the Raiders. If Adams doesn't land with the Steelers, there are other options.

Jakobi Meyers could be a quiet trade target for the Steelers

If the entire Adams saga ends without him landing in Pittsburgh, it would be another disappointment. Just because they might not land a big fish like Adams, doesn't mean they still couldn't find other options potentially on the trade market. The Raiders trading two receivers before the deadline on November 5 seems unlikely, but a rebuilding team could pull it off.

Jakobi Meyers is someone that many haven't mentioned since the Adams trade situation heated up. We know Las Vegas is still rebuilding, so they might be willing to offload both Adams and Meyers to acquire as much draft capital as possible. Meyers might not be the same level of player as Adams, but he is a legit number two receiver on a quality offense. Would be a massive upgrade for the Steelers.

Many fans have been begging the Steelers to trade for Courtland Sutton for most of the year, well Meyers is somewhat similar to him in terms of production. Meyers has been able to produce quality numbers ever since joining the Raiders in 2023 despite poor quarterback play. He might not be a top guy, but Pittsburgh doesn't need him to be on their offense.

Another big factor in Meyers being a great fit for Pittsburgh is his current contract situation. His cap hits are affordable and he remains under contract through the 2025 season. That should give the Steelers a quality duo for the remainder of this year and next before he and Pickens need new deals. Meyers might not be as big of a trade splash as Adams, but he would be a quality upgrade for the Steelers.
