Steelers can't let gift from Houston Texans slip through their fingers

This former Texan would instantly make an impact if the Steelers picked him up.

Every year, there are a handful of players who get cut from a roster who shouldn't have been let go. Whether there were injury concerns or a really deep position room, these types of players can be a gift to a team in need of that position. This year, the Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in desperate need of another wide receiver, and the Houston Texans just gave them the opportunity to pick one up.

The Texans have an incredibly deep wide receiver room. Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and John Metchie will all contribute to what should be a great Texans offense this season. Because that room is so deep, Houston was forced to let go of a quality receiver: Noah Brown.

The 28-year-old Brown is coming off back-to-back solid seasons -- one with the Cowboys in 2022 and the Texans in 2023. Over the past two years, Brown combined for 76 receptions for 1,122 yards and 5 touchdowns despite missing 7 games last season. At 6-2 225 pounds, Brown has great size and would fit in perfectly on the outside.

Noah Brown would jump to the top of Steelers' depth chart

The Steelers wide receiver room has received a lot of scrutiny from me and other media pundits. Noah Brown would instantly become the Steelers' second-best wide receiver if he were to end up in Pittsburgh. In 2023, Van Jefferson, Scotty Miller and Calvin Austin III (the other three non-rookie receivers on the roster) combined for 550 receiving yards on their respective teams. Brown had 567 by himself in only 10 games played and 7 starts.

It would take some time for Brown to adjust to the system in Pittsburgh but that time would be well worth it for the Steelers and their offense. There are a couple of other options that the Steelers could go with, but Brown is one of the better receivers on the open market and he wouldn't cost anything to acquire.

This entire offseason has been a huge will they won't they situation between the Steelers and 49ers for Brandon Aiyuk. At this point, I've given up hope of that trade happening. Omar Khan and the Steelers need to shift focus to other options and Brown is sitting right there.

An instant upgrade to the room is just lying there, waiting to be claimed. The Steelers would be absolute fools to not do everything they can to convince Brown to come to Pittsburgh.

It's not often another team just giftwraps a good player at a huge position of need at this time of the offseason, but the Houston Texans just gave their best Santa Claus impression. And the Steelers better claim their present before it's too late.
