Steelers way-too-early 2024 7-round mock draft as training camp ramps up
Day two of the draft adds a starting center and competition at safety
It is unknown if Mason Cole will be sticking around as the starting center for the Steelers past this year. He is under contract for this upcoming season and is currently scheduled to become a free agent following that. The black and gold could always bring him back, but they decide to address that void through the draft by taking Sedrick Van Pran.
This center from Georgia would have likely been a day two pick this past draft if he decided to come out of college. He could squeak into the first round by the time it is all said and done, but he lands in round two here. Van Pran should be the top center for this upcoming draft class and would be able to fill that starting role on day one.
Safety is a position that needs some investment after this season concludes. Keanu Neal is currently an unknown when it comes to what caliber starter he will portray. The Steelers need quality young guys at the position that can either challenge for the starting job on day one or develop into a starter in year two. Having Neal and Damontae Kazee would take pressure off an incoming rookie.
Minkah Fitzpatrick is not going anywhere, but the loss of Terrell Edmunds could affect the Steelers defense more than many expect. Adding someone like Calen Bullock would bring a new face to the safety room and challenge for different roles immediately. He would need to fill out his frame more at the next level, but his upside is there.
