Week 6 of action in the United Football League has come to a close and marks the halfway point. There might not be any top-tier talent in the UFL, but the Pittsburgh Steelers could still be interested in some of the league's top players. They need guys ready to compete for roster spots at training camp, and the conditioned spring players could be the perfect choice.
A pack of enticing mid-season UFL MVP candidates could get a call from Mike Tomlin.
I don't anticipate these UFL playmakers becoming starters once they hit an NFL roster. There is a reason they are trying to work their way back to the top league in their profession. The United Football League has talented players who can push for jobs this preseason. These MVP candidates could get numerous NFL offers if they keep producing at this pace.
Pittsburgh Steelers would be foolish not to sign UFL MVP hopefuls
Bryce Perkins, QB, Michigan Panthers
There is no hotter name in the UFL right now than Bryce Perkins. After weeks of restricting the star quarterback, Michigan is starting to lean into his big-play abilities. Week 6 might've been his best performance, which got plenty of attention. He is a dual-threat signal caller who is as deadly with his legs as his arm. He has the best shot at making an NFL roster at his position.
Besides Jordan Ta'amu of the D.C. Defenders, Perkins has quickly climbed the ranks in the UFL MVP race. He is playing on another level, making spring football fun to watch. He is an electric playmaker who has toyed with his competition. If Perkins can keep this up and Aaron Rodgers doesn't sign with the Steelers, this UFL quarterback could be their next option.

Ajene Harris, CB, Arlington Renegades
It's easy to have offensive playmakers as MVP choices, but Pittsburgh must keep an eye out for some defensive options, too. Ajene Harris has been a terrific player in coverage this season. The veteran cornerback has been in spring football since 2020 and has struggled to locate an NFL opportunity.
The Steelers need more options at cornerback, and Harris could be their answer.
Harris isn't the ideal cornerback size that most teams want. He is on the shorter side. The corner plays with grit and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win. He hasn't had a shot in the NFL since 2019, but it might be time to change that. Harris leads the UFL in interceptions (3) and pass defenses (9). Harris would be a terrific choice if the Steelers want to add a competitive cornerback.
Jacob Saylors, RB, St. Louis Battlehawks
After adding Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell this offseason, Pittsburgh's need for the running back position has dissipated.
Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith wants a run-heavy scheme, which means they need as many quality running backs as possible. Jacob Saylors could be a fantastic fit with The Black and Gold if they are willing to keep four at the position.
Not many players in the United Football League have produced a long-standing MVP run like Saylors has this year. St. Louis has struggled with injuries this season, but their star running back has kept the team afloat. Saylors leads the UFL in rushing yards and has exposed his all-around game. He has produced 514 total yards through a meager six weeks of competition.
