The Steelers are hoping to get their first winning streak going this season with a road win over the Kansas City Chiefs. While they’re game planning and warming up we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Sunday, Oct. 25th.
Roster moves
The Steelers made a roster move on Saturday afternoon that is quite telling in regards to the quarterback situation for today’s game against the Chiefs. The team announced they have promoted Tyler Murphy to the active roster from the practice squad.

Murphy’s promotion most likely indicates that while Ben Roethlisberger traveled with the team to Kansas City, he won’t dress or play for the game. To make room on the roster for Murphy the team placed cornerback Cortez Allen on season-ending IR. Allen is quickly becoming the quickest post-contract signing bust for the Steelers since LaMarr Woodley.
The struggle is real
Speaking of large contracts, Mike Mitchell signed one with the Steelers last offseason and then spent the 2014 season playing through some pretty severe and painful injuries drawing tons of criticism from fans on his performance. This season, Ray Fittipaldo of the PPG explains that Mitchell is trying to put it all behind him and let his play speak for itself, in a good way.
"“This is what I expect to do. I’m thankful to God I’m healthy. I’m thankful to Coach Tomlin and the Rooneys for giving me this opportunity and for my teammates not packing it in on me. Last year, it was hard. It was frustrating. But I challenge any human to try to go play the way I was playing. I want to be done talking about it so bad. It’s frustrating because I felt like people didn’t understand.” – Mike Mitchell"
It is what it is
While on the topic of frustrating injuries hopefully we’ll see the return of linebacker Ryan Shazier today against the Chiefs. Chris Adamski of the Trib reminds us that if he takes the field today it will be 35 days since the last time he played and he had two injury absences of that length his rookie season last year.
Because of that he’s getting the ‘bust’ label pretty hardcore and whether it’s warranted or not it’s bound to have an effect on the player. He let his frustrations boil over on Twitter a bit last week but this week he spoke to the media and was much more reserved.
"“You can’t really control injuries, and God has everything planned – He does everything for a reason. So he probably just wanted me to be able to stay focused in and learn more.” – Ryan Shazier"
