Making a blockbuster trade before training camp seems unlikely for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but things can change in a hurry. There are spots on their roster filled with talent, while other positions of need linger. As training camp progresses into the preseason, don't be surprised if injuries happen.

Those pesky injury problems always arise, and it could lead to some alterations on the trade block.

As the Steelers head toward training camp they could look to add to some of their own deficiencies via trade as time pushes onward. They also have the option of potentially moving some pieces out of town before training camp wraps up later this summer. Notable veterans across the roster could garner interest if the Steelers make them available on the trade block in the near future.

Pittsburgh Steelers could alter roster by placing these players on trade block at training camp

Brandin Echols

Moving Brandin Echols out of town shouldn't be top priority, but he might fetch them something nice in return. He played great for the Steelers last season, and his trade value might be at an all-time high. It's a secondary full of talented players, and someone will be the odd man out after training camp. If Pittsburgh wants to move someone with value, Echols makes the most sense of their options.

Broderick Jones

It's no secret that the Steelers will be moving on from Broderick Jones at some point within the next year. His injury status continues to be the biggest roadblock when it comes to his fit with Pittsburgh, and potentially elsewhere. There could be a couple of teams in need of a starting tackle, and Jones would make sense. He wouldn't cost much to acquire, but his health must get cleared first.

Alex Highsmith

Making a blockbuster deal remains unlikely, but if the Steelers want to make a real splash, Alex Highsmith might be one of their best bargaining chips.

They just re-signed Nick Herbig to a massive deal, and T.J. Watt is grossly overpaid compared to his production as of late. They don't need to place Highsmith on the trade block, but if they are eager to upgrade another position, he makes the most sense to move.

Kaleb Johnson

Cutting bait with a third-round pick from last year's draft would be a bold decision. It remains unlikely, but if the new coaching staff doesn't like what they see from Kaleb Johnson at training camp, he could be traded or cut from the roster. He has shown flashes as a runner, but that may not be enough with Rico Dowdle. Johnson must find ways of making a positive impact if he wants to stick around.

Asante Samuel Jr.

Somewhat similar to the logic of trading Echols, the Steelers secondary might be too full of talent. That could allow Asante Samuel Jr. to hit the trade block at training camp if he cannot make a strong enough impression on the new regime. He brought his career back to life in spurts last season, and Samuel could gain considerable interest on the trade market if he emerged as an option.

Roman Wilson

Pittsburgh could use as many talented wide receivers as possible, and Roman Wilson will be a massive X-factor for them.

If he fails to prove himself at training camp, then he could get traded or removed from the roster. This is a massive preseason for him. Wilson has a lot of talent, but his failure to find a role on offense could make the Steelers ready to move on from him.
